Kalamani Rabindranath Sahoo was born on 16th February’1960 in an ordinary Artist family at village Dihirakula under the Udala block of Mayurbhanja district of Orissa. His father late Sri Kishore Chandra Sahoo was a well know Artist, dramatist and lyricist who practiced different forms of folk arts such as Rasalila, Odisi Kirtan and directed many popular theaters in Orissa.
Shri Rabindra Sahoo left school education in the year 1973 to join the Handicrafts Training Centre in Bhubaneswar. Rabindra received training in Pattachitra (traditional paintings of Orissa) from Guru Sri, Gokul Bihari Pattanaik, late Guru Sri Bhagabata Maharana and Guru Sri Benudhara Mohapatra. After completing formal training in Pattachitra Painting he practiced the craft under the guidance of Guru Sri Gokul Bihari Pattanak and mastered the skills for a long time.
From the childhood days Sri Rabindra Sahoo had inclination towards art, song and literature, which led him to devote heart and sole towards research in different forms of painting art. Since 1986 his articles on paintings and handicrafts of Orissa has been publishing in different magazines and Newspapers. He has received accolades from different organizations for his excellent craftsmanship and intricate works in paintings and research findings. Rabindra's articles based on arts have been well recognized and appreciated by renowned critics and eminent personalities. Rabindra has interacted with many renowned personalities, art lovers, administrators while participating in different workshops and seminars.
Presently Sri Rabindra Sahoo is pursuing his research and teaching students in Pattachitra at his residence named “Chitrasala” in Bhubaneswar. Being inspired by him many young generation artists are now adopting the new themes in Pattachitra, which is a new dimension to Paintings in Orissa. He is also presently teaching the students at the State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts (SIDAC) in Bhubaneswar on the essence and genesis of evolution of Paintings. Rabindra has a long way to go to explore many more new things that gives meaning to life and human existence.
